Girls’ Programming Club was created at the beginning of the last semester (March 2019), where high school young ladies were encouraged to take this opportunity to further enhance their programming capabilities using Python, based on their existing knowledge on Visual Studio. Throughout the semester, the club held weekly lectures to learn about various topics with Python coding. The progress and achievement throughout the semester were presented in a final project on self-created graphics. In the following school year, we are planning to introduce deeper learnings regarding Python and to learn more programming algorithms. The content of our sessions will mostly center around Python syntax and Python data structure. We will also be summarizing our work and progress through a final project at the end of each semester. The topic and theme of the projects are not yet decided, but we are encouraging ideas that use programming as a tool to create things that benefit the people around us or solve problems in more efficient ways—for example, creating a class selection system or other mini-programs that may help the school community in the future. We hope that through girls’ programming learning, it can motivate more high school girls to step into the wonderful world of STEM, and they can utilize it to bring some positive impact to the community.
